Health - Pimples?

I occasionally get irritating pimples in the crotch area - scattered, 3 or 4 at a time max. The pus, like you'd see on a pimple, is more flat like a pocket instead of a bubble like a facial pimple. They usually appear similar to how an ingrown hair looks, right under a hair as well. Should I use some kind of ointment to fix it, pop them, or leave it be? I did some research, it doesn't look or behave like any STD, and I highly doubt it is as I haven't had sex in over a year, and I saw something about "folliculitis"....tips?
