Are there any teachers on here due in December? What is your plan for maternity leave?

Yes ma’am, told my principal on Thursday and plan to see when this sweet baby boy or girl plans to make its arrival. I’m due Dec. 28th, so would be smack dab in the middle of Christmas break. Would love for this peanut to decide to arrive about a week early, but of course just want a healthy baby. Realistically, I’ll get 2 weeks at Christmas break, take 2 weeks paid vacation time, and then another 2 weeks unpaid. Will be nice to get paid 4 out of the 6 weeks, but sure wish our nation was more accommodating and understanding  when it came to maternity leave!

Wow that is crazy. I get 12 weeks at 90% my weekly rate then another 25 weeks of statutory maternity pay at £145 a week. I can't believe you have to use up your sick days. That is awful.

We get 6 weeks maternity leave that we pay for with our own sick time and if there’s a medical reason you can take up to 12 weeks. I’m trying to figure out a way to not go back for the rest of the year. I’d like to avoid daycare until The school year starts again if possible but I have to figure it all out still

Yup! I'm gonna take as long as I financially can. I work up to going into labor or Dr saying otherwise. Short term disability won't kick in until after I give birth and my pay starts getting docked for my long term sub as soon as I exhausted PTO days, so no point in wasting them before baby is even here.

Me. Not sure what to expect since this will be my first baby. I know I get 6 weeks paid, and then I’ll plan to use some of accrued sick days in order to extend my leave until March.

I’m planning to postpone my leave until January. I’ll have 30 days of PTO by then so I’m going to take them all in December and start my mat leave when we go back after winter break. When my official mat leave is over, I’ll take extended leave so I don’t have to go back at all.

Teacher here. Due December 21. We only get 6 weeks. The first 4 I have to use my leave, which blows. I’ll likely get lucky and get 2 extra weeks with Christmas break. I’d love to take the rest of the year, but that’ll be hell financially. I’ll likely take 10-12, with 4-6 weeks being completely without pay.

This is my second Dec baby. First pregnancy I got pulled from work at 33 weeks for being high risk, so late Oct. Then I never went back that school year. I am hoping to have a healthier pregnancy this time. I haven’t decided if I will go back after baby #2 is born in the spring or if I will take the remainder of the year off again. I’ve changed districts and my old districts mat leave was amazing, only went unpaid for 5 weeks with all that time off. This time way more would be unpaid.

I will get three extra weeks off for Christmas and then 12 weeks. I’ll only get paid for 6 though. I am actually pretty sure I am not coming back after though so I don’t know what to do. I don’t want to leave mid-year, but I really want to stay home with my baby. I’ve been working an online teaching job for two years in anticipation that it will become my full time job when baby is born. I am thinking about just not coming back in the fall rather than leave mid-year.

I’m due right around the start of our Christmas break, which is always 2 weeks off, so I hope that will give me a couple of free weeks. I will have 9 weeks worth of days saved up when I go back next school year. I think I might try to take 7 of them so I don’t have to go back until almost March maybe (and so I won’t use ALL of my saved up days). I’ll run this by the administrators of course, but not until I announce. Hoping I can find a good long term sub since I’m a music teacher. Don’t have too many music specialists around here, but I teach little kids so it shouldn’t be too hard on a sub anyway as long as I leave good plans!!
