What kind of car seat?

Question

First time mom here...currently 24 weeks and working on my registry. I’m wondering what everyone’s opinions are on car seats? Go for the travel system with infant car seat and stroller? Then after a year (or 35lbs) buy a convertible seat? Or just buy the convertible for an infant and up? And a separate stroller? Can you even carry around a convertible one? I’m so new to this and beginning to get overwhelmed!! Help! 
Please give me your opinions and why! I need some guidance!

I’m going with the graco 4ever all in one and plan to baby wear since it’ll be the start of fall and getting colder. I just don’t see the point in paying money for an infant seat just to use it for a few months and replace it with a convertible, I’d personally rather just buy one and be done for the the rest of their life.

an infant carseat to start out is going to be so much easier and convenient for you. taking a newborn in and out of the carseat and carrying them around everywhere while they are trying to sleep is a pain.  also I liked having my baby girl all strapped in ready to go out to the car so all I had to do was pop the base in. that way I could carry everything else at the same time. I think you would be much happier starting out with an infant seat.

You can’t carry a convertible car seat around, only the infant seat. With my daughter I only used the infant seat for about 6 months before switching to a convertible car seat. So I didn’t get much use out of the infant seat. 
However, I think it’s good to have the infant car seat when they are really little because it’s easy to carry & keep baby in especially when they are sleeping rather than taking them out of their car seat everywhere you go like you would have to do with the convertible car seat. 
So my advice is to not spend much on the infant car seat, use it as long as it works for you guys & then switch to the convertible seat :)

infant car seat all tbe way. you cant carry a convertible one. with my 1st 2 they were so big i was convinced it was a waste of Money with my 3rd so ingot a convertible and though i love her seat now i wish i got the infant first. she is a little below average size and fits everything much longer. her new baby sister has an infant seat waiting for her when it.is time in august

We used both. Put a Convertible carseat on our registry and bought a used graco click connect carseat from a lady on Facebook.

I am also a FTM and my daughter is now 5.5 months. We got a travel system with y3he infant carseat and brought an extra base for dads car. We will be buying the convertable seat for her first birthday. 
This worked out for us because she was born 5 weeks early and only 5lbs 1oz but by the time we left the hospital she was only 5lbs so small. The travel system we have the infant carseat can accommodate an baby 4.5 lbs and bigger. Lastly we travel alot. We have been on the plan 4 times and once by myself. The travel system was soo easy. The convertable seat would have been cumbersome. 
I think it all comes down to lifestyle.

I got one of both! The carry around kind with a push cart thing it snaps onto for the beginning and the Graco forever seat that goes from infant to age 10.

Depends on what kind of car you have and your requirements. We share one car and my husband drives his boss to work, so we are going with one that snaps out so there is room for his boss (he’s a big dude) in the passenger seat. We already have a convertible for our older child and it’s only just gotten comfortable to drive with it behind the driver seat now that he’s sitting up instead of reclined. If you drive a little car, I’d go with an infant seat.

An infant seat is really convenient when they are little. I will get a convertible seat when my daughter turns 1 this summer partly because she's getting so tall I think she will fit better in a convertible seat, and because we are expecting kid #2 in November.
