Need advice. First time mom. Pest control. Spiders.
Maybe some of you have been following by here is what’s going on. My husband and I just moved into an old home. It was built in 1890, has a massive yard, and three very large gardens. Prior to us moving in, the home had been empty for a year. We picked this home to stay in, until we become home owners in a few years. It’s perfect for our growing family (I am 29 weeks pregnant).
We started to see many spiders. We had pest control come to examine the home and the crawl space. We had the worst infestation of brown recluse spiders the company had ever seen, and had “mild infestation” of black widows. They reassured me that the spray was safe and that I didn’t even have to leave while they sprayed. I called my OB and got a second opinion. Everyone agreed that the spray was far less harmful than the potential of being bit by a brown recluse or black widow. They sprayed inside and out and I stayed at a friends house for 4 nights just to be extra safe.
They needed to come back for a second “light” treatment, two weeks later. Again, OB approved and just to be extra safe, I stayed at a friends house, this time two nights.
We continued to see spiders (a great decrease) but we were still seeing at least one daily. Today, they came back for another full indoor and outdoor treatment. They said that we shouldn’t see anything else. I can’t stay at my friends home tonight, but I did exit the home for 7 hours after spraying.
I’m so upset. I’m upset because I love this house. I’m upset about my exposure to pest control in pregnancy, and I am upset about the spiders. I followed all of the instructions and then some but I still worry about the safety of my baby boy. Anyone had a similar experience? Words of wisdom for a very nervous first time mom?
