How often does your baby eat?

Question

Just curious who feeds on a schedule and who feeds when baby is crying for food? I feel like our baby gets hungry very quick after a feeding so I’m thinking about feeding him when he’s hungry versus on a schedule.

I did a mix of both. On demand for the first 6 weeks and then tried to move to a schedule... but, when baby is hungry, baby is hungry, so it wasn’t like the schedule was set in stone.

On-demand feeding is best. Look up cluster feeding, that may be what is happening. Also when babies have growth spurts their appetite increases for sometimes a week or more. When my son hit 3 months for example, he was ravenous!  He gained 2 lbs in 2 weeks and then miraculously started sleeping through the night. It was so weird but we just fed on demand and it worked beautifully. Forcing a baby onto a feeding schedule can actually lead to a host of problems so I don’t advise it.

I got with breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner so about every 3 hours and milk before naps and bed time. Sometimes he skips a snack if he had a big breakfast or lunch.
