3 week long period!!!???

Question

I’ve had my period since the 1st of April. Today it got light to the point where I thought it stopped (it did this about 2 weeks ago also) but I am worried I will continue my period. I made a doctors appointment for the first week of May but I am FREAKING OUT. WHY AM I BLEEDING FOR SO LONG?? I have the implant. I’ve had long periods (normal for me is 7-9 days of bleeding with spotting for up to day 14) but never over 12 days. I have been extremely stressed lately and I think that is why my period has lasted this long. Any help??

Hey there! I had the implant put in last August and had to have it taken out in March for this same problem. My longest period was from January 19-March 3rd of this year which was why I had it taken out. 
I got it taken out the 1st of March and by the 3rd the bleeding completely stopped. I’d consider switching if I was you, because since then I’ve been on the patch and have had a regular period. Still a bit early for me to tell, but for me the implant was just not right due to heavy and prolonged periods.

Answer

The most common side effect with the implant is irregular bleeding. This is normal, your periods on the implant will be unpredictable and may stop altogether.
