POSTPARTUM: What do you wish you would have known?

Question

I am a nurse in an OBGYN clinic and our postpartum mamas are constantly saying things like “No one tells you that this is going to happen” or “I wish I would have known about this so I could have prepared myself”. I would like to ask all of you what you wish you would have known about the postpartum experience so I can better inform moms. Who knows, I may even write a book about it!

that you'll most likely be really sad after baby is here even if you have everything you wanted. and that's it's okay to cry about it you not a mad mother for it.

Feeling like you were kicked in the clitoris after you give birth . That was so uncomfortable for me and I thought something was very wrong until I called my doctor and he said it’s normal

Hot flashes. Oh my god the hot flashes for me postpartum were terribleeeee.

Well I'm almost 32 now and I had my first child at 22. Do behind very young my first time there was a lot I didn't know. I'm someone who likes to know things and do research. My mother was always very open about sex and what is what growing up. I thought I was prepared but there's a lot I didn't expect. Some thing's I read about while pregnant but some things still surprised me. Even with my last child last year I experienced things I never even heard of. Which the idea that that could even happen after 4 children was more of a surprise than anything else lol. With my first I wish I would have known that you bleed after having a baby. I had no idea you bleed for such a long time or b so heavy after wards. It was kinda a shock that no one told me this. I guess there's some things people just assume you already know. I was also surprised how much it hurt to breastfeed. The whole cramping while your uturus shrinks. Was another big thing no one tells you till it's already happening. I was seriously like WTF! These are things I really believe should be covered in high school sex Ed. It certainly want covered in mine. I think if kids knew more about all the painful things that come with having a baby there might be fewer teen pregnancy. Maybe they have changed things idk but I know numbers are down so they may have. I know my best friend didn't know about all of it with she got pregnant in high school. Anyway with my last pregancy I experienced mastitis and I never even heard of it before baby number 4 so that was a big surprise. I guess there's just so much out there with pregnancy and all that it's hard to inform a person on everything. Definitely the whole bleeding thing should be covered more though.

The hemorrhoids.  Holy cow. I also had a tear and an episiotomy. I wasn’t prepared for how scared I would be of my own vagina. Haha
I don’t know that I was really prepared for the deflated belly, either.  I knew it was coming, and I was still surprised.

I thought of another one! I had no idea how unstable my core would feel.  I remember feeling really loose and a little off balance. I don’t remember ever hearing about that.
