Should an engagement ring have a diamond?

I’m just curious. I know that engagement rings can be other types of stones, and don’t have to be an actual diamond. But, if he were to propose with a cubic zirconia, is that ok? Would you say yes. Or, would you rather him wait until he can afford a more real stone/diamond?

My fiancé proposed initially with a garbage twist tie 😂 Then a few years later he did again with a gumball machine ring shaped like a robot 🤣 He bought be a fake (but beautiful) diamond ring at Christmas for my right hand "just so he could practice buying rings" 😆He proposed for real a few weeks ago with a real diamond... but I would have married him every single time, regardless. ❤

What does being engaged mean to you? 
Is it important that it’s a more expensive ring or not?  It’s really how you feel about it. Do you like the ring. Does it make you happy.

You can always upgrade the ring later.  Don’t put your life on hold to afford a ring, or even a wedding.  That being said, I also believe thar people get married on this app way too young and that while here is a small percentage of 18-19 olds who will stay married, people change a ton between 18 and 25, and I highly highly highly recommend waiting for both marriage until then, and waiting for babies until you are established and financially secure, not just stable.  I also think that being engaged shouldn’t necessarily be its own stage, but just the on deck circle for getting married, but that’s me.  So in conclusion, don’t “not get married” but continue your life as if you were because of money, that’s silly to me.  Get engaged and married when you are ready, and the fancy jewelry can come later.  But also, don’t rush into having kids until the money and security are there, even if you are married.

I had a 5000 dollar ring picked out , also planning a really expensive wedding, I woke up one day asked myself why?! Because really why do we do it? And we are now getting eloped, then going sky diving (of weather permits I do live in Canada so 🤷🏼‍♀️) and I chose a beautiful pink ring with cubic zirconiums , so much happier and less stressed!

I have an alternative stone and I love it. Diamonds have no actual value anyway. The value of a diamond depletes the moment it walks out of the jewelry store, so there is no point in breaking yourselves financially to buy a diamond unless it is more economically feasible for you. For some people, diamonds are affordable, and that's ok- go for it! But, the traditional idea that it isn't an engagement ring without a diamond is simply wrong. You can even get engaged without a ring. It's the desire to be together for life that matters.

The main thing is the hardness of the stone or metals, if you are going to want something that you can wear for years without it deteriorating you should get something that is damage resistant. It doesn’t have to be a diamond by any means, but I would go with a plain silver or gold band over a CZ.

I'd rather have a green garnet, or a natural Herkimer set in silver.  I think diamonds are overrated.  And the love my man has for me isn't measured by what they buy me.

Mine is a ruby, but we don’t have it until the wedding. My husband proposed with a $6 ring off of Amazon, and I would have said yes in a heartbeat if there was no ring.
