Not wrapping gifts

Backstory: We are having a gift display instead of having my son open gifts for his first birthday. We have a large family who over buy, and we know it will be too much for our son to sit and open all the gifts and I know I’ll get stuck doing it while my husband sneaks off with our son to calm him down. So we’ve asked everyone to just being their gift unwrapped and display it on the gift table so everyone can see.

I’ve gotten a lot of backlash for this, but I really like this idea and kind of want to use it here on out.

Would you be offended if someone did this for a birthday/wedding/baby shower?
