Is gender biological or a social construct?

Y’all just confused the f out of me with the Rachel dolezal post. Half of you guys are saying gender is a biological thing. Half are saying it’s a social construct. I was always taught in college that gender is a social construct, but I’m not sure I ever bought into that idea. Explain yourselves!! 😂
(Not sure this is really “controversial” but at least it seems there are differing opinions.)

Both. 
Gender as best we understand it appears to be biological as evidenced by the fact that every known society has divided itself by gender. Many many societies throughout time and space recognizing the existence of more than two, and understanding that gender does not inherently equal genitals. 
Gender expression on the other hand is a social construct. What’s regarded as correct behavior for a gender in one society may be viewed as antisocial in another. An easy example of this is the western history of gendering color until we’ve wound up in a sea of pink and blue designations.

Any sociologist will tell you gender is a social construct. How do we know? Look cross culturally - the IK tribe sees men take on primary caregiver roles and the women would take on the roles of the breadwinner by hunting. Also look historically - women are now taking on breadwinner roles and working full time taking on successful careers and you have the emergence of househusbands, which 100 years ago would have not only been unheard of but frowned upon. Even sex itself is not binary in the split of Male and female when you have intersex people, for example those who are completely Male/female presenting but have the ‘other’ set of chromosomes. Nothing is ever black or white

You are a male at female at birth.
When you become older and perhaps feel differently about yourself and decide you are not what gender you were assigned at birth then hell go for it, be happy!! You can say whatever you feel and believe you are, and act and live in that way, do you!
Regardless; biologically and genetically, you still are what you were assigned at birth. 
I have a friend who’s name was julien, and has since changed it to juliet and is transitioning into a lovely woman and I adore her and I support her decision whole-heartedly. It’s her life and she can do with it however she please, and good for her for doing what makes her happy!! I don’t judge it or look at her any differently because she is still my friend and the same person! I use her preferred pronouns and treat her how I’d treat any of my lady friends, I just act as if she were any other woman.
However; as stated earlier, she is biologically still a man because of how her body operates itself and the differences internally compared to as if she were born a woman.
