How soon to take a test?

I’ve been ttc for a couple of months and last month I got my period before I’d even thought about taking a test. Now I’m hoping I’m pregnant again and my period is due in 6 days. I took a home early results test this morning and it’s negative, I know the tests aren’t 100% conclusive so early but when should I test again? Should I wait until my period is due and see if it comes and stop worrying?
