NIPT???

We had our work up appointment with the ob office and they went over all the prenatal genetic testing available. The nurse is trying to tell us that they charge a set rate and our insurance won't cover it, but we have great insurance and I'm pretty sure they do cover at least part of it, if it not all of it (pretty sure it's the MaterniT21 test). Why would she tell us that? I tried to get the test code so I could check with my insurance, but she just said it wouldn't be covered! So frustrated!!! 😒

We have premium insurance and even so it's not covered by insurance unless you're considered high risk. You can certainly call your insurance and ask if the NIPT test is covered, but it likely won't be. Many drs have special contracts with specific companies to them at a low rate. My drs office has the same thing with the Harmony test and basically the nurse said my test should be covered (I'm high risk) but if not then I'm entitled to that low rate.

Some insurances wont cover it unless you are considered of advanced maternal age, high risks, or you have/ had a family history of the conditions it tests. I would call your insurance and then the lab and ask what the cost is/ if it’s covered. I don’t bother talking to a nurse, they don’t do billing. Talk to someone that does billing.
