Is birth control necessary for IVF?

I’m starting my first IVF cycle next month and was told to go on birth control day 1 of my period, for 10 days. Doing that will put my egg retrieval and implant phase right in the middle of a trip I have planned. If I skip the birth control piece, I can have everything completed before the trip. How necessary is the birth control? Have others done an IVF cycle without it?

I cancelled my trip because of IVF process, I asked my clinic to write me a letter so I can get full refund. 
It’s not wise to set your own protocol for a procedure like this. You should discuss this with your doctor.

IVF is a controlled process, thus the need for birth control. I recommend that you wait after your trip to kick things off.

You definitely NEED to talk about the schedule with your nurses or dr!!! The bc helps to keep the follicles the same size so that when you start stimming, you have a better chance of all the follicles growing at the same rate. You may want to wait another cycle!! The timing is critical!

Priming is important whether you have high AMH ( BCP a must here) or DOR ( estrogen priming). Definitely don’t “skip” anything for IvF for some trip.  Just postpone. Talk to RE about your trip to,  they have to know such info

I would talk to your doc about the trip.  Mine won’t start treatment if you have out of town stuff planned.  He will postpone until after.   He said we must be completely available for 3-5 months (5 is worst case scenario FET).
