Is masturbating in a marriage wrong?

Hi everyone! I know this might be kind of a weird question. My husband is in the Marine Corps and is currently deployed right now. Both of our families are pretty religious and tell us that masturbation a marriage is wrong. However my husband and I have made a mutual agreement that since we can’t have sex that we will sext each other and be able to masturbate together. It has honestly helped our marriage being that we can’t show our love to each other physically for the next six months this is the closest thing that we have to that. However I just wanted to get other peoples opinions on it. Is it wrong?
