Do you have guilt over formula feeding your baby?

I was unable to produce hardly any breastmilk and was unable to breastfeed my daughter. So she is formula fed and doing great but I still have a lot of Mom guilt over it. Am I the only one?

Same. My 7 week old little girl was breastfed for about the first month and then multiple things caused me to have to stop. I started just dropping my milk supply. No matter what I tried or how much I nursed or pumped I went from pumping about 2oz every time to about 1oz then 0.5 oz. I couldn’t keep my supply up. Then, I ended up in the hospital for a week with pancreatitis caused from my gallbladder, so ended up having to get that taken out. Due to all the radiation from the CT Scan and MRI and the pain medicine I was on after surgery, I had to pump and dump. Not to mention how hard it is to pump consistently in the hospital for a week. So because of that I had to switch her over to strict formula for a week. Then once I finally got out and could nurse again, I started trying to but could barely pump 0.5oz and when I nursed it never satisfied her so I got so discouraged and I have basically gave up. I don’t know what else to try. I feel so guilty and like I’m an awful mom because I’m not giving my child the absolute best. My husband thinks I’m crazy when I talk about it to him, as long as she’s fed she’s alright is his thoughts but I was just really determined to breastfeed her for atleast the first 6 months, if not longer. I barely got through the first month. 😢 I’m jealous of people who doesn’t even have to try and can get so much milk.

I did and felt like my body was betraying me. I’m over it now (5months old). Fed is best. Even a small amount of breast milk is fine. My lo probably gets 10-18 ounces of breast milk a day.

My first had a horrendous latch and I fed her for months through the pain. One day I just bought a can of formula and started feeding it to her. When she was 5 a speech therapist realized that she had a fused tongue (where the tongue tie is so big baby can't lift it's tongue from the bottom of the mouth). Her doctor admitted he knew about it and had been pushing me to bf a baby that was in pain from feeding and caused nipple deformities. Not to mention she struggled with speaking. I feel no guilt and quite a bit of anger. I am pregnant and plan to demand that lactation consultant check for ties before I leave that hospital. I feel no guilt in my decision to stop feeding her breast milk.

Just try to remind yourself, "Fed is best!" Whatever gets the job done to ensure your baby eats. I know things might not be going the way you planned, but I promise it will be alright in the end. 😊

just to make my answer clear yes I have guilt over formula feeding and no you are not the only one. I tried with my first and second. when they got a bottle it was like their latch was different but also they wouldn't calm down long enough to latch. my third I wanted to so bad. with him I cried. I regret not doing it at the hospital. he was formula fed. I couldn't get him to calm down either. I still cry about it and he's almost 2 months. I feel so horrible. I don't do skin to skin with him like I would even like to. my oldest two are 4 and 2. so I just felt like they wouldn't give me a break to breast feed. sometimes they stay by when I'm feeding their baby brother and other times I have to stop multiple times because they are into something
