How many times a day should I wash my tattoo?

I got my first one today and my tattoo artist told me to wash and moisturise it 4-5 times a day. Well I’m new to tattoos and obviously don’t know much but I’ve done quite a lot of research before I got it done and that sounds a bit excessive to me? It’s a small one, nothing huge, just fine lines no shading or anything like that. Any input?

4-5x on the first day only. 2-3x for the rest of the first week. 1x per day throughout week 2. Moisturize with aquaphor after every wash for the first week, then switch to unscented lotion applied at regular intervals through the day. That’s my recipe for keeping colors vivid! I'd listen to the tattoo artist. I washed mine 3-4 times a day so i don't think its excessive

Depends on the location of the tattoo, I washed my lower arm about 3 times a day because of my career and the amount of exposure it had to the environment around me at work.

Once in the morning once before bed unless you’re exposing it to stuff. Only moisturizer when it starts to feel dry/itching/tight. Over moisturizing can make it hard for your skin to heal.

I only “washed” any of my tattoos when I showered. The first day I didn’t mess with it at all. I let water run over them in the shower and softly rub with my hand. 
I only use unscented lotion as well. Anything thicker made me break out on and around my tattoo but most people prefer something thicker like aquaphor for the first couple days.

You should probably take your artist’s advice since they did the tattoo, but I have cleaned all of mine 2-3 times a day.
