If you’re EVER scared of your partner, you need to leave. Physical aggression, physical assault, verbal aggression and anything like that is not okay. 
If you are going through this now, you should leave.

My SO use to be a black out drunk.  He got violent one night and came after me.  I was never scared, but angrier than hell.  He got the raw end of the deal because I came back after him seconds later with a cast iron skillet.  Needless to say that was the last time that ever happened.

My husband was an alcoholic and it was never really noticeable until one night he got black out drunk and smashed everything in the house and was in my face. 
I wasn’t scared more pissed he broke my greys anatomy cup 😡 but thankfully he took my ultimatum seriously and he’s 7 months clean 😊😊
