Bf’s apology. Is he being an ass?

A little backstory: my boyfriend and I are both 20 years old. We’ve been together for just over 5 months. He’s gotten into the habit of telling me what I need to improve upon physically. When he brings it up, he’s not saying it in a mean tone, just matter-of-factly. There’s one particular thing he said to me early on that really pissed me off. He promised to not bring it up again and apologized. A couple weeks ago, he brought it up again. People make mistakes so I reminded him that I didn’t like it. Two days ago we were in the car with my mom and he brought up AGAIN. After dropping her off, I kinda laid into him for it, especially for discussing it in front of my mom and because we had a conversation about him laying off me just a few hours prior. He apologized a couple times but they felt very empty. After we got back to my house, I made him leave and haven’t spoken with him in person since.
