I’m sure to some people it might and I feel bad for those kids. 😔
But I would never find relief in punishing my child. I love them and I hate to punish them, but I know they need it. It’s for their own good.

This DOES happen and it is VERY REAL. I feel that those who do have personal problems obviously and they feel that taking it out on their children is their only option. Yes, it’s wrong, but it’s going to happen and you can’t stop EVERYONE who does it unfortunately. :/

It depends, I’m sure. I was spanked as a child because I was super super naughty (not listening at all, 900% sure that I had selective hearing 😂 and doing things such as running away from my parents in stores and across the street, etc)
However, I think I turned out just fine. My parents spanked me on occasion, but hardly ever in public. It was only because I knew I was naughty and, after being told REPEATEDLY to quit doing something or listen, I wouldn’t. 
There are also some parents that would abuse their children due to anger issues or lack of self control. It all depends on the parent.

My dad only used his hand and it was a source of taking stuff out on me. When he was upset or frustrated the smallest issue would cause a spanking session.
Some people say “it can’t be abuse if it’s spanking” and to them I say, obviously you were never abused with that method. I was spanked over the clothes for long sessions that usually left welts up and down my legs and bruises all my backside, to the point that at school I had to force myself not to cry because sitting on hard chairs hurt so bad.
He is a 6’8” man and used to be 250 of pure muscle. Used his full arm length and most, of not all, his strength with his spanking. If it wasn’t most of his strength if he surprised. I never bled, but the seams of my jeans would rub raw lines on my rear. Eventually I learned to only wear sweats with no extra stuff on the butt (hard to avoid in the early 90s) so that it would just be bruised and welted and not have any skin missing.
I was spanked until my mom finally left him after his schizophrenic breakdown. I actually am really close to him now because schizophrenia changed him into a much better person and he has fully apologized and recognized his wrongness.
(I have emotional and physiological abuse from my mom that she doesn’t recognize, but that’s another story)
So yes. I definitely think whoopings can be abuse... EVEN if it is only using the hand.
