Pediatrician help?

Question

On my hospital registration it asks for my pediatrician. I have a few questions:
1. Do you have to have an appointment set up before the hospital let’s you leave?
2. How do you pick a pediatrician (things to look for)?
3. When does your baby see the pediatrician for the first time? 
I’m a first time mom but I’m a few weeks from my due date and I don’t know what I’m supposed to be doing as far as a pediatrician goes. Thanks in advance.

we had to pick up a pediatrician ahead of time. and have it ON the registration for the hospital to have on file.
we looked around online and picked the one that had the best reviews. called and asked for a tour of the facility.
we ended up liking it so we gave our information to them.
ONCE SHE WAS BORN, had a signed birth certificate and all( all done AT the hospital,  during recovery stay), we had to call our insurance company,  tell them we need to add our newborn to the policy ( we had two weeks to do so). once u call, u give out your childs name, date of birth, social security number and PRIMARY DOCTOR'S NAME, at the office you are registered.
first official visit was at 2 weeks old. no shots, just a visit. her first shots visit was at 8 weeks old( 2 months shots appt).
from there we went every time her shots were due, or if she was sick.

I asked my OB for recommendations since I’m not from the area and hadn’t lived here very long. She told me who she used for her own children, so I decided to go with him since I absolutely trusted her judgement. I just told them when I did my pre-admission interview who I planned to use, and since his practice was in the hospital where I delivered, he came the day after my daughter was born to examine her and introduce himself. I did not meet him beforehand. My daughter’s first appointment with him was scheduled for two days after we left the hospital. I don’t remember how I scheduled her first appointment, because my daughter is now 15 months old and I was recovering from a cesarian, but I think they gave me the office phone number to call to set it up. Usually one comes to visit you from the hospital or their partnering clinic. They'll make you an appointment for 3-5 days after birth. Also, you can switch if you like after 1st appointment.

I have the one I want in mind they don't go on call in the hospital so it will be whoever but I asked my dr when I should tell them and they said when the baby is born. usually they want you to follow up 1-2 days after discharge with the baby at the peds office. I am going to call my office like a month before my due date and ask them what their policy is but in the hospital the case manager can make you an appt for follow up with whoever you choose

We didnt have to have one when baby was born. If you don’t, they just get checked by the ped on call. 
We knew who we wanted. Due to hurricanes and such we never got around to the paperwork side if things. Luckily a ped from that office was on duty the day our son was born so it worked out. 
We asked about their vaccination policies, their thoughts on formula v breast (i never wanted to breastfeed-never did), sick v well areas, availability for sick visits (our peds office leaves 1 appointment every hour open (per doctor) for a sick visit. Nurses line availability, thoughts on some aap recommendations (starting food, sleep, etc).
