How long did your epidural insertion take?

With my first baby, the anesthesiologist took a long time and multiple tries with my epidural😰 luckily it worked. I’m having baby girl Monday or before and of course I’m nervous for it again. How long did your epidural take?

Less than a minute, he did it while I was having a contraction and was finished before it was over, I didn’t feel it happen at all but he was also old as dirt and had hearing aids in both ears and the next morning on his day off he came by to check on us and wish me happy birthday( I had my first baby the day before my own birthday so I was the talk of the whole hospital)

It only took a few minutes. I told the anesthesiologist that I hate needles!!! He was great and joked around and was like do not look at this table then (where all his supplies were set up) so of course I started to look..and he was like no! Don’t look! Lol they allowed me to lean on my husband which was great. he numbed my back with the lidocaine, which was the worst part. Then told me to try to relax and keep breathing. Have a conversation with my husband. He said but let him know if I feel any pain or pressure. Talking to my husband helped take my mind off of everything. I felt pressure that made me jump, he fixed the tube, and it went in smoothly. I was so nervous about that part but it’s really not that bad. Just relax, breathe, talk to whoever ours leaning on about anything to try to take your mind off of it.

I honestly can't remember.  I was given a med thru my iv moments before I got the epidural.  I actually fell asleep (and started to snore) when I was getting the procedure done.  the staff had a good laugh because I guess that has never happened before.

From the time I sat on the side of the bed to the time he was done I’d say 5ish minutes. 10 tops. This included numbing me, putting all the tape on to make everything sterile. All the steps.

Both of mine took 5 min or less. Definitely going for a third this time around, that relief is heaven!

Oh wow these all sound heavenly! Mine took probably about 40-50 minutes and over 5 attempts. She made it seem like it was the way my back was set up🙄
