Gestational Diabetes
Today I went in for my 34 week appointment. I was diagnosed with GD at 26 weeks. I did what I was suppose to, but my fasting levels were a little high in the last couple weeks. My doctor wants to put me on medication to manage it. I feel like such a failure to my husband & our little girl. There’s been a lot of stuff my body has been through since I was 5 months along. I feel awful telling my husband about the pain I’m going through with my feet, legs, lady area, my lower back & especially my sciatic nerve and now with the GD & having to take medication for it & to top it all off, I’m also anemic. It’s been a very tough pregnancy for me, physically & emotionally because of the GD. It makes me angry that my body has let me down & that I have a family history of diabetes. I know that things could always be worse, but I still get sad thinking about the fact that I tried to control it with diet & exercise & yeah sometimes it can get high, not very often, but that just no matter what I do, my morning levels just won’t stay down. Anyone else having to take meds for GD?
UPDATE
So I started the meds. My doc said take in the morning when I wake up & before bed. Anyone that has to take it, do you take it as soon as you wake up & just as you are going to sleep? Because I took it last night, fell asleep about an hour & a half later & slept in a little today & my fasting BS was still at a 97. Am I doing something wrong? Do I not eat a midnight snack like she recommended? Because I had a little yogurt & berries for my before bedtime snack.
