Is he mysterious or uncaring?

So my new bf is very chill. At first it seemed he was really engaged and really wanted to get to know me. Then after a while we ran out of things to say. Forexample I would ask him what he's doing over text and he would tell me. Then he just wouldn't ask me about how my day was, so I found it was me answering as if he asked. 😣 I am now the one that has to initiate everything and keep the convo going. But then today when I told him I was sad but it doesn't matter. (about unrelated things) he sat down and asked me what was going on he actually paid attention the way he did at first. is he just chill or does he really not care much to ask on the regular?
