epidural or no epidural??

So I've been avoiding thinking about this too much because it gives me anxiety! This morning my midwife wanted to discuss my birth plan!
 
I don't want to ask my girlfriends advise because ppl always want to push one way or another and I want this decision to by my own but Im looking for some feed back on women who have given birth with and without and the pros and cons.

I planned to go unmedicated but I was open to it if I needed it. Then I was induced at 39 + 3 due to hypertension.... yea pitocin contractions are no joke. She broke my water at 2 cm because baby was 0 station. Contractions were hard and fast from the start. I mean like 30 seconds between. 4 hours later I was 5 cm and begging for the epidural as I sat in the tub bawling my eyes out after puking for the 3rd time. They got it placed and I was in heaven. I could still feel pressure and move my legs. They gave me a button I could press every 12 mins if I needed more but I didn't. It made things manageable. An hour and a half after getting it I was 10 cm and ready to push so they shut it off. During my hour of pushing it wore off so I got to feel the contractions, when to push, the ring of fire... everything lol. It helped a lot in getting her out. It probably wouldn't have taken so long but they didn't know she was face up until she came out. On the last push they also let me pull her out myself. An hour of skin to skin and then right into the shower I went. Overall it was a nice experience.

I chose to get the epidural. If you are on the fence about it just plan to go without at first and if you feel like you need it don't feel like you are quitting. The most important thing about that day is to bring baby into the world, no matter what it takes to do so.

Just keep an open mind. You don’t have to decide right now whether or not you want it, just keep it as an option. That’s what I did. You never know how your labor and delivery will go. I ended up getting it and if I didn’t there’s absolutely no way I would have not blacked out during my delivery (shoulder dystocia, ten pound baby, he broke his arm, third degree tear and hemorrhaging). I think it’s always good to have a plan but also keep an open mind that things may not go as planned

No epidural for me. I don’t believe in unnecessary birth interventions. It interferes with all the good birth hormones that help you deliver the baby and bond with the baby afterwards. You are at an increased risk for cesarian and tearing and you don’t get that after birth “high”. when an epidural is administered it enters the babies bloodstream as well causing unintended side effects. Plus its derived from cocaine... NO THANK YOU! My body was meant to do this and i believe its all mind over matter, your brain is such a powerful muscle when you are in control.

I went in open minded I went in at 5cm and I asked for an epidural but by time she left the room to request bloods to see if I could have it (high blood pressure) I was at 10cm so did it all in medicated. I didn’t even have pain relief for the stitches. I am glad I didn’t get it in the end because I was able to get out of bed as soon as I was stitched up and able to walk around.

I can't do needles. I pass out if I'm not lying down. Epidural was just an automatic no for me. 
My first I had morphine (or so they say lol had no effect on me) and my second was an overdue 9lb baby boy. Doing it again in October.

I used an epidural twice.  They worked great!  The pain was too intense for me, it was more manageable with the epidural.  Planning on getting another one with my little guys is born!

mine never worked with my first. they tried 4 times. finally gave up cause i was scared they would paralyze me. im not gonna even bother this time cause i feel like theres no point lol just gonna remind my self women have done without it for a long time. good luck!
