Gestational diabetes?

I just found out today I have gestational diabetes I will be 31 weeks tomorrow and I’m not sure what to do? Has anyone else had it during there pregnancy? I have an appointment with a nutritionist on Friday so hopefully she can give me some good tips. But on the plus side my baby has finally flipped and since today is my birthday that’s the best birthday news I have ever heard 💙

I do I found out at 24 weeks! I hate it you literally can’t eat anything! And only drink water.. the diet didn’t work for me so I got put on insulin. One shot every night before bed. My numbers are all over the place. It’s so annoying and you have to be checking your blood 4 times a day 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’m getting induced in 2 weeks because of the GD! Other then that it’s not toooo bad.

the nutritionist will give you lots of info to help. I suggest looking for low carb meal plans on Pinterest to help! I believe they want to you to keep carbs at 45 total per meal? but not 100% sure.

Yep, diagnosed at 12 weeks and 29 weeks now. The first couple weeks we're the hardest but once I figured out what I could and couldn't eat that I normally would it's been much better. The nutritionist will help a lot and don't get upset if you end up on meds. I've been able to manage numbers during the day but my fasting was always out of control so I'm on both metformin and insulin.

The nutritionist will tell you how many carbs you can have per meal. It depends on your weight and where you are in pregnancy. They instructed me to eat 6 times a day. 30g of carbs for breakfast, 15-30g carbs snack, 60g of carbs for lunch, 15-30g carb snack, 60 g of carbs for dinner, 15-30g carb snack. I have to test my blood sugar 4 times a day fasting and 1 hour after breakfast lunch and dinner. I was instructed to balance all meals with protein and fat which will help with processing the carbs. Also they instructed to get 20-30 min of exercise a day. So far I have been able to keep my blood sugar under control. You will have to experiment with what foods, carbs and combinations that work for you because every one is different.
