Zika in the Caribbean?

Is Zika still an issue??? I haven’t heard much about it since like 2017. But I want to travel to the Caribbean this summer and the CDC says that whole area is still a no go? Any thoughts? Has anyone spoken to their doctor about this recently?

It’s still a thing. There are signs at my doctors office about signs and symptoms of it. But, talk to your doctor if you still want to do the trip, they can give you better facts!

It is still a thing. My husband has to go to the Caribbean frequently for his job (military), but my doctor just wants him to always wear bug spray. And the dr office said they’d write up an order for him or me to be tested, since he’s traveled there before we conceived and throughout the pregnancy. So far we haven’t felt the need to test and all seems to be well. However, i wouldn’t travel there myself just for fun.

It is but not everywhere- some islands are Zika free. You can find a list with google

Asking your doc is your best bet. It has made it to all the islands and if either you or your partner get it that would put things at risk. I live in the US but actually did IVF in the Caribbean last year- the docs there suggested I wait until after March 2017 because at that point it had been in that island(Trinidad) over a year so the “epidemic” stage was over. We took lots of precautions and I have not heard of a case there in months but I know when I came back to the states I got lots of questions.

Check with your doctor. I did that and he strongly advised I didn’t go to Vietnam as it was still a high risk area.

I agree with PP. it’s definitely still a thing. Some parts more than others. Just check with your doctor and they will know if you can or cannot go.
