How long did it take you to get over your longtime boyfriend?

I just started dating this guy (2 months) who broke up with a woman 6 months ago, they dated 4 years. My friend said theres a rule that it takes you 1/2 the time you were together to get over them. Totally true for me at least. What about you??

I was pretty much over my ex by the time I ended it with him. He was an abusive jerk and I cried all my tears for him before I said goodbye. All I had to do when it was over was recover from the severe case of shingles I contracted near the end of our relationship due to extreme stress. I broke it off with my ex at the end of February 2010 and started dating my now-husband at the end of May that year.

i’m still not over my ex and it’s been 3 months since we broke up :/ (we were together for 7 months though). there’s no time limit when you should be over someone though.

I think it depends on the situation and grounds for breakup. my previous relationship was 2 years and very toxic so I was relieved when it ended. I had felt like I was just wasting time with him and wanted to get out. felt emotionally healthier right away and starting dating my current husband a couple weeks later.

My first one we dated 3 1/2 years in high school - I ended up saying someone else a week later. [my ex had impregnated and gotten engaged to someone else.]
My rebound from him - we lasted a year. He ended up beating the shit out of me when I caught him cheating so I had to move states.
I didn’t date again for two years after him. I was also traumatized.
And now I was in a relationship for about seven months and he cheated [i found out two weeks ago] so I’m just figuring out what I want to do.
