Uncomfortable..

My bf is so shut off, for example he’ll start to say something then goes, “nvm, I’m not gonna say anything”. When it comes to our relationship, communication sucks on his part. I open up about everything I feel, but he can’t do the same. He says it’s best for him to not talk about his feelings.. I don’t ask for much, like why can’t he open up? We’ve been together 3 years & early on, he was open. Of course, there were some rocky things in our relationship but he’s changed.. I tell him all the time.. I’m just venting though, how should I approach the situation w/out it escalating? Bc it usually does due to how our attitudes are & by how defensive he can be.. 🙄
