Eating disorder while pregnant
I am currently 10 weeks pregnant, and I have an eating disorder.
Okay, I want to start by saying that I recognize that I have an eating disorder and this has long term physical, mental and emotional consequences. I know I need to seek professional help to overcome my eating disorder. But right now I just want to know if anyone has any insight as to whether my baby could have been harmed by my behavior up until this point or could be harmed by this in the future.
I am bulimic, but I only have 1-2 binge-purge episodes a week. The rest of the time I eat relatively healthy and balanced and exercise 4-5 times per week. My typical weekly binge is probably a few thousand calories, I only binge on foods that come up easily (ice cream, cake, mashed potatoes with a lot of gravy, etc etc). So 1-2x/week I binge on this type of food, purge it all back up, and then go on with a normal healthy diet the rest of the day/week.
In my mind, scientifically speaking, I don’t see how this could be impacting my growing baby. If anyone has any actual scientific (biology, digestion) info regarding this I would be interested go hear.
AGAIN, I know that being bulimic even only occasionally is a big problem that I need help with...but right now I just want to know if I’ve harmed my baby up until this point.
