Has anyone had to write a victim impact statement?

I am nervous to read it out loud. Has anyone had to write one? What did you say? I don’t want to give my abuser satisfaction of all things I went through after I left but I also want others to hear.

I had the option to but I opt out of it. I know he would have received a harsher sentence but I didn’t think he deserved to see me or hear my words, he had taken enough from me.

I had to write one when someone broke into my vehicle and they had a history of drug abuse and stealing. I had to write how it changed me and affected me. Thankfully I just had to email it to the prosecutor
