Visitors after baby?

My husband and I are due to have our baby boy in early December. I’m already having slight anxiety over having a winter baby and all the germs, common colds, flu. Hubby and I both work in healthcare so maybe we are hyper aware of this. Anyway, every year my mother in law hosts New Year’s eve in Ohio and my husbands large Italian family comes to town for several days to celebrate and visit. I honestly don’t know if there’s a way I can avoid everyone seeing and wanting to hold my fresh little baby with an immature immune system lol. The only thing I’m thinking is I won’t attend the big New Year’s eve party and people can come to our house in small groups to visit. That way I can at least feel semi in control of the situation instead of being in a room full of 30 very kissy touchy old Italians trying to make sure no one is coughing or sneezing around him. lol. Thoughts?? Anyone ever have a baby around the holidays and feel this kind of anxiety??

Girl I’m having mine in August and we will have visitors in rounds. I’m not entertaining 15 people while I just had a newborn. And everyone will be checked for sickness. If you are sick, you don’t get to come over.
I know people want to see the baby as soon as she is born and we want to show her off too but sorry. Just because you’ll be in town doesn’t mean you automatically get to come over. My job isn’t to accommodate you. It’s to keep my daughter healthy and happy.

We said very limited visitors and no vax no visit until week 8z
Then we slowly had people coming over.  Think about it this way, as a mother of a son who caught RSV at Week 14.  If he had caught that at Week 5-10 we would have probably been in breathing machines and a really bad outcome.

I think just remember that everyone doesn’t see the big deal in being sick and around ur child. Some think it’s ok to just be there and not touch the baby. My sis just had her son a few months ago and was open to visitors but did mass txt everyone to tell them if they are sick or think they might b getting sick, don’t come and that they’ll be plenty of time to visit when they r better. I like how she worded it. Direct and to the point but not rude. 
The immune system or lack of one is no joke. When I went in labor with my son, kids were not allowed to be in the hospital cuz that’s when the bird flu was running rapid. Anyways my sis in law had to watch my almost 2 yr old for a few days. When I go her back, she caught a cold from someone my sis in law took her around. It was horrible cuz my so immediately got sick even tho my daughter wasn’t really around him. He was on and off sick for almost the first ur of his life. He’d get better then a few weeks later have a cold again.  They can’t give infants meds so we just had to wait it out. He was breast fed to and it always broke my heart cuz he was so small and nose was stuffy and runny and it was hard for him to breath when he was feeding. He’d gasp for air. 
Moral of the story...others don’t really see the dangers of even having a sniffle around a new born. Lots of time they don’t even realize there is an issue

My husband and I are due with our second at the beginning of November. We are in the process of buying a house, but my parents, grandparents, and my 4 sisters will all be moving in with us while my parents work on building their credit. I just cant let them suffer when we will have the room to help, even if it's a little tight, it wont be as bad as what were living in now. With my first, I never got a break. My in-laws came over regardless of how I was feeling and it really stressed me out since they'd just take him from me and wouldnt even give him back when he needed cared for (I breastfed too). My husband even got angry at me when I tried telling him how I felt about them just taking him... my family was always understanding and only came over when I was feeling up for visitors. Since we will all be living together, I'm nervous they wont give md that space I want/need for myself, my husband, and our son to bond with our coming daughter. Chances are itll be fine - they're so understanding - but itll just be different living together this time. This time I will be more vocal about my in-laws too. they caused so much anxiety last time.... luckily, I wont have to deal with my husbands bitch sister at least this time. ANY WAYS. Make sure you speak up about what is and isnt okay, when you do and do not want visitors. all that stuff. regardless of who it pisses off.

My daughter was born December 23, we took her out but we kept her covered and didn’t let people too close to her. No kissing. No touching the face or any part that she would stick in her mouth. It also helped that we breastfed to build her immune system. Do what you think is best for baby.

This will be my first, so my plans may not be reasonable, but I plan on not having any visitors except very close family (aunts, uncles, grandparents, no kids) for a while. We’re skipping all the family events like the family new years party. Easter will probably be the first time we really have baby around everyone. My sister in law bring her sick kids around constantly, so we will be avoiding her family, as bad as that sounds.

I've got a four week old, and it's coming into winter in Australia, so we had the same problem. We've had massive outbreaks of whooping cough in our area this year, so before my daughter was born, we let everyone know that if they hadn't had their booster shot, they wouldn't be allowed to visit until after she's had her first lot of immunisations at 6 weeks. And the same that if they're sick, they have to wait until they're completely over it. Luckily everyone has been receptive so far, probably because we set the expectation early and didn't drop it on people after she was born. We've also been strategic when we go out of the house, sticking to places with plenty of fresh air and minimal people around to reduce the risk of germs (I live in the tropics, so our *winter* is admittedly very mild). Good luck with everything, I'm sure you'll work it out and have the best time with that little bundle!
