Anyone who had a dog give me advice

So we’ve recently just bought a dog I love him he’s amazing but he’s not allowed anywhere in our house except the kitchen. I don’t see the point in buying a dog if there only allowed in one room and are alone 90% of the time. No one goes in the kitchen unless for food so he’s in there alone most of the time. I usually go in to play with him as much as I can but my family shout at me because it’s too noisy. Where do you keep your pets and do you think it’s pointless us having one since he’s only in the kitchen?
