Baby born at 37+6! Here's my story :)
The last couple of weeks I've been feeling extra wet down there.. i mentioned it to my OB at my appts but he kind of pushed it off saying it was normal and that if my water broke I would "know" because I'd feel a big gush.. well, Monday June 11th I had my 37 week check up and I was dilated to 1cm, 25% thinned and high cervix.. my Dr said he would see me the following Tuesday the 19th because he was going out of town from Wednesday the 13th-Monday the 18th and that we would discuss an induction for June 22nd the next Friday.. well, the thought of induction kind of shocked me because from the beginning I wanted a natural labor, well, at least as natural as possible.. so I prayed, and I asked God that whatever His will was for me and my family
to be shown and be fulfilled and to take the worry from me because I knew it was in His perfect timing.. so the next day, Tuesday the 12th I started feeling heavy pressure down there, which wasn't abnormal because baby boy stayed low, but it literally felt like he was going to fall out, but no blood, no "gush" of water and no cramps or contractions so I tried to stay off my feet and rest.. come Wednesday morning the 13th I woke up around 6:30 a.m and my
underwear felt wet, so I checked and it wasn't nothing bad, but they were clearly wetter than just average discharge.. it was way more watery and had no color.. so I called my doctors office (which is 45 minutes away) and they said just to be on the safe side, if I was worried, to come in and they would do a fluid swab.. my husband was at work so I called him to let him know I was going there and he wanted to go but I told him it was probably nothing, just me overreacting and he didn't need to leave work... so I drove myself. On the way I started feeling sweaty and clammy and started having light period like cramps, nothing I could time but they were pretty annoying.. so when I got to the Drs office I saw the P.A and she swabbed me and the test was definitely positive.. she then decided to check my cervix and I was dilated to a 3 and 80% thinned and my cervix was dropped and baby's head was so low in my cervix she has to go around his head.. she immediately sent me for an ultrasound to check his fluid level and it was at a 7, and the ultrasound tech said in her 30+ years experience she's never seen a baby so low via ultrasound.. the P.A told me to call my husband immediately because she was sending me to be admitted to L&D; because I was having my baby boy that day!! This was at 2:00pm, by 3:30pm I was in a delivery room hooked up to pitocin because my water had potentially been ruptured for so long they couldn't risk infection so we had to get him out ASAP, I was so nervous and excited at the same time but worried that my baby was too early or not ready.. well, at 6 pm I was dilated to a 6 almost 100% thinned and at this point my pitocin was at 18 so I was all but begging for an epidural (which I should have asked for way earlier but I thought I was wonderwoman and the contractions weren't "that bad" HAHAHAH) well, an hour later at 7pm I got my epidural which only took on the left side, I felt EVERYTHING on the right side, the nurse gave me some pain meds and stopped my pitocin because I was having no breaks in between contractions, they were a minute apart one after the other.. I literally thought I was dying. For those women who have natural labors with no epidural, omg I have a new found respect for you! So at 9:00 I was dilated to 8cm 100% thinned and my cervix had turned and was completely ready.. the nurse said she would be back in an hour to check me again and to call the doctor if I was ready to push.. well not even 10 minutes later I felt a ton of pressure down there so my husband got for nurse and she checked me and I was at 10cm
And 100% ready, baby's head was already starting to crown, so she called the doctor and was getting me ready to push, and when she pulled my legs up on the stirrups my epidural started working on my right side and I went completely numb!!! THANK YOU JESUS, perfect timing!!! (Come to find out I had what's called a "pocket" where the baby was pushing on that area and the epidural couldn't reach to numb my right side) but when I was moved to another position, the baby moved allowing the meds to take place.. I wasn't completely numb but I felt no pain.. I pushed through 3 contractions with the nurse and then the doctor came in and immediately asked me if I had gestational diabetes (since my doctor was out of town I saw the on call OB whom I wound up absolutely loving) because my baby was so big, I had a healthy pregnancy with no issues and my measurements and due date was always spot on, even though the only measurement I had on my baby was at my 20 week anatomy scan.. the doctor suggested an episiotimy because the baby was so big and he said I would definitely rip , so he cut me and I pushed 4
More times (pushed a total of 18 minutes) and at 10:28 pm my 37+6 weeker, 8pound 13 ounce, 20.5 inch long baby boy was born!! He has a head full of strawberry blonde hair and is perfect and healthy in every way!! I could only imagine how big he would've been had I went 40 weeks!! God definitely had a plan and he answered my prayer in His own devine and perfect will.. we are so blessed and so in love!!
