What should the penalty be?

I don’t agree with incarceration for nonviolent crimes. They should have to pay for restoration though, and if possible do some of the actual work themselves.

I think the culprits should have to pay a fine and face jail time for vandalism.

Extremely disrespectful. However, sadly, jail time usually doesn’t work on fools like these. 
My personal penalty:
To show respect to the officers/workers,
1. Vandals should have to work as personal assistants for the officers for a week or so. Whatever is asked of them within reason they should do. 
2. Vandals should perform community service in other areas such as picking up trash, giving out free car washes, organizing donations that are given to these places, etc. 
To show respect to the cars,
1. They should fully detail the interior of the car to the satisfaction of the victims. (Might only be able to do certain areas depending on layout of vehicle since some can contain sensitive info/can’t mess with certain areas)
2. They should fully detail the exterior of the car to the satisfaction of the victims. 
3. If the cars need any kind of work to clean them up the vandals will take care of it with the teaching of a skilled person. 
4. Write detailed letters of apology explaining that they now know that vandalizing vehicles that are extremely important in the transportation of those needing help or of those causing trouble is completely inappropriate and inexcusable. Many people don’t really “get” this until they actually write it out. 
I don’t play around with bullcrap like this to begin with. Vandalism is a ridiculous thing to do, especially to vehicles. They need to grow the hell up.

I think some graffitis are lovely looking when done at the right place. This is horrible, disrespectful and so stupid. A fine should be imposed. If it is first offense let is slide with just fine, but if repeated, jail time sounds about fine to me.

Jail time. No doubt. Pulling an EMS unit out of service endangers the lives of others and is not a crime that should be taken lightly. Had this been an officer’s vehicle or a non emergency response vehicle I would feel differently.

I work for the NHS in A&E.; One of my colleagues who is a paramedic responded to a 999 call of a cardiac arrest. On arrival there was nowhere to park and she was slightly over the line but she was answering a call to a cardiac arrest it shouldnt matter where she parked. Someone came banging on the door because she was obstructing the driveway. The paramedic was busy performing CPR until other paramedics arrived. On getting to the house the other paramedics recieved a backlash of assault from the said person. The three paramedics then took the patient to my hospital as a standby call. When they went to collect the pther vehicle the tyres had been slashed!
