Anyone with an IUD? What’s your experience been like?

I’ve been thinking about birth control and I honestly just can’t stand the thought of the pills and the added hormones and crap it adds to Your body and I’ve watched the video for Nexplanon and HELL NO! I don’t do needles and they’d have to knock me out to put that in! I’ve thought about the IUD it sounds so simple and great but I’m TERRIFIED of having that shoved into my uterus through my closed cervix it just sounds incredibly painful. And I’ve read horror stories about the effects it can have and that seems to be my biggest issue with each birth control is the god awful symptoms and side effects they can cause. I don’t have hardly any cramps EVER my period is always on time and other than increased acne at times and some mild headaches and a minor backache my periods are a breeze and I honestly don’t want to go from being A OK to being freaking miserable the whole time being on something! So I guess I just was curious about people’s experiences.

I’ve had mine almost three years. Going in it felt like an awful cramp. I told the doctor “stop never mind I can’t! “ but he told me it was already finished. Do just a quick bad cramp and that’s it. I have a bunch of those anyway on my period. For a couple months my period cramps were a little worse but then all my periods since that have been much lighter. I still get my regular symptoms. No added ones which is fine with me. My boyfriend had a really large penis and when he goes really deep it hurts bad but I’m not sure if that’s just what regular cervix bashing feels like, I started having sex when I got my IUD already in. He had came in me almost every day for three years and I’m not pregnant. There’s no 100% guarantee of course but I’ve been safe so far. I have skyla but I want to get one that lasts longer next time. I love it. I can’t remember to even take antibiotics so it’s great having a birth control that you don’t have to worry about for YEARS.

I've had Mirena for a month. When i got it, they numbed my cervix, and after thay it just felt like pressure. It was crampy, like a period for the rest of the week. I love it though. You'll have bleeding and spotting for a bit, but it gets better with time. I'll keep using Mirena until I get my tubes tied, and maybe even after that so I don't have periods.

I have a copper IUD, my periods used to be like 3 light nice days n didnt have much cramps. Ive had the IUD for 15 months, and yeah now my periods are like 4-5 heavy days and cramps are so so painful for me. It for sure changed my periods made them worse for me personally and my cycle is a lot shorter now too. But i chose the IUD cause i didnt wanna have to take a pill every day or get a jab every 3 months ya know, you just insert and forget almost.

I had my Mirena years ago before the gave it to women who didn’t have a baby. I had been on the pill for years before that and hated paying a huge co-pay cost to get them. My insurance paid 100% for the Mirena after a one time co-pay. I overall decided the Mirena over the Paraguard because the hormone made my period regular each month. Fast forward a few month in and slowly started my period shorten and lighten to eventually non-existent. I loved not having a period each month and not having to worry about being pregnant for 5 years. After the 5 years I had it removed and decided to use condoms until our wedding a few months later. It took my period a few month to get regular. We married at the end of June and decided no birth control so whatever happens happens. By the end of August we found out we were pregnant, so it didn’t take long before my cycles were in order before I got pregnant. After my pregnancy I decided that Mirena was the best form of birth control and had another placed just 8 weeks after giving birth to my daughter. We are now coming up to her 1 year birthday and decided we are going to try for another so I will be getting it out a little early for that. All in all an excellent form of birth control and saved tons of money on tampons and pads.

I’ve had mine for two years (ParaGard). And it makes my periods like a crime scene but I haven’t gotten pregnant so lol
