Should Sarah Goodman pay for the statue? And was she neglectful?

Question

So over here in the UK it’s been reported in the news regarding a woman called Sarah Goodman whose son Troy was reportedly hugging a statue and it toppled over and broke and is now beyond repair. 
According to the insurance company they’re stating she was ‘neglectful’ in letting her son near the statue which was in a community centre in Kansas(correct me if I’m wrong). 
Personally I think kids go through the habit of having to touch everything it’s their instinct, I as a parent know that myself! But the question is what do you guys think??

It’s her fault. 
If he kid wanted to “hug” a statue and it broke.... I would actually feel sorry for them, but that isn’t how it went down. 
Little brat was climbing it and mom I think isn’t around??? Pay up.

Honestly, I'm just glad the kid wasn't hurt. If a statue breaks from a kid HUGGING it, it wasn't built very well.

It’s her fault. She wasn’t in the same room as her child. The story I read it was secure down but didn’t hold a child dragging it down. If a rope was up he would have just gone under it. If your child breaks something in a regular store you pay for it. Now where they got the value of it is another story.

yes she should pay! pay attention to your damn kid specifically around expensive stuff. I was always taught DONT TOUCH unless its yours.

So she was neglectful, but I don’t think she should pay for it. 
1. The price is made up by the artist as to what they think it’s worth. It’s not a masterpiece worth a fortune just because they think it is. I don’t agree with that at all.
 
2. It was in a community center where children are going to be. The piece should have been protected, preferably in a case and secured down. If the artist thought it was that valuable, they should have done due diligence to protect it.

No she shouldn’t pay for it. It was an accident. It should have been secured so it couldn’t fall. Or it should have been put somewhere higher up.

I agree that the the parent should pay some type of fee. She should be watching her child especially when your in that kind of environment. Even though a kid is going to be a kid , I know when I was a kid and my mother took me out she made sure that I didn't touch anything and  she Didnt let me out of her sight!
