Boyfriend doesn’t know when he’ll be back??

My boyfriend is about to leave for deployment. He said they won’t tell them a date for when they are coming home until 2 months before. Is that normal? I feel like that’s super weird. Not saying he hiding anything but I feel like they have to have another unit to replace them so someone knows the date.

It’s very normal. The amount of people who violate OPSEC (even in this group)is astonishing. 
They should know a ballpark of how long the deployment is, but will not tell you the exact date until it’s closer.

Depends on the branch, unit and his MOS. Every one is a little different

You can always ask if he gave your contact information to his FRG, they would contact you with any information regarding deployment plans and schedule. My husbands return date kept changing the last few weeks he was due back. I just waited for the FRG to call me with a date and time.

With the military you literally never know. Whether it's a deployment or a PCS move I never believe anything until the tickets are bought or I see it in writing.. 😂 it can most definitely be frustrating but it is what it is. You can never get your hopes up though that's one thing I have learned

I dated a guy in the navy and I was not allowed to know when he was coming home until the week prior. It's a safety issue. Don't stress it. I wasn't even able to know the exact Sunday he was leaving until it actually happened.

Agreed, it depends entirely on where they're going, what they're doing, etc. MOS/Branch.

They'll get a window but no solid date (and even then it can change with the wind) until probably a month before. My husband left last June and they said he'd come bavk sometime between late January and late March, they gave him a flight date mid January and he came home February 9.
