Ex boss drama
A few months ago I applied for a receptionist job that I later found out was at a brothel, which is not legal in my country. I took the job anyways, reasoning that I wasn't actually doing anything, just clerical work. I handed in my notice a few weeks ago. The owner was odd, didn't like me talking to the girls, and called me yelling about not having more availability, after which she texted saying she was happy we were able to figure it out. The final straw was when a man came in with his member out and masturbated in front of me. I couldn't distance myself from what was going on then. The owner asked me to come in for an exit interview. It was awful. Here's the backstory on what we discussed:
Weeks ago a man came in, saw a girl and after his appointment, he came up to the front desk and said he wanted to leave a tip. Now at this point, I'd had guys leave large tips for me, so I assumed he was doing the same. Girls who are tipped are supposed to collect during their appointment. I asked him if he was sure, and then took it and put it in my wallet in the back room. About 10 minutes later, as I was waiting for the girl to finish tidying up so I could close, she came up and asked if he had left a tip. I froze and said no. Earlier that week I had read a company note about her attacking another girl for holding their money from a joint appointment. I was nervous, being there alone at night, so I lied. The next morning when I was back in, I put the exact amount the guy had given me into an envelope with her name on it.
Fast forward to my exit interview. The owner said she saw me on tape stealing and that it was a bad call. I attempted to explain what I just said above, that I was scared for my safety and put the full amount in an envelope, so I didn't take anything- she even said herself that the girl was unstable- but she kept saying that I stole and I was lucky she didn't call the police to charge me. She said I was a liar because she caught it on tape. I told her to look at the tape from the morning after to see that I put the full amount in an envelope, but she ignored that. She left her seat and started getting a bit too close to me, so I told her she was welcome to call the police to press formal charges, and I left. She was in my face at that point, calling me a liar and a thief, and said she would tell the girl I did steal from her and the girl was “looking for me”. Yes, I did take the money, and I may have handled the original situation wrong but it was 100% because I was scared about what she would do.
I just needed to vent. Thank you if you read through the whole thing. Constructive advice would be appreciated.
update: For the people commenting on the legality of the place, they get away with operating it by saying it's a sensual massage parlor. Police know it exists but don't bother trying to shut it down.
I may have written the part about calling the police wrong. I wouldn't call them. I told her she was welcome to call them after she kept telling me I was lucky she didn't earlier on, and sort of threatened me by saying she would talk to the girl and that the girl was looking for me.
I have no desire to contact law enforcement and have them shut down. Some of the other girls who worked there were nice to me and I wouldn't want to get them in trouble. My concern is the owner telling the girl where she can find me. She has my address on file.
