Do I need to bring a pacifier to the hospital?

Question

Packing my hospital bag and I’m like I have no idea if I’m supposed to bring a pacifier with me? Do people introduce them later to baby when they’re older? So many questions that I have no idea about 😂

If you're planning on breastfeeding it's best to wait on the pacifier because you don't want nipple confusion... if you're not breastfeeding then  Bring your own the hospital may have them a but I really dont trust that you don't know who's been touching stuff.  Not every baby gets nipple confusion so I don't need anybody to jump down my throat I'm just repeating what I learned having my 1st baby and through my breastfeeding classes I also didn't introduce a pacifier right away some children are hard to get off of it and I'm glad I didn't because he used one for like 2 weeks and never needed it again it was awesome I had a self soother  hope this baby will be the same way. good luck

My hospital is “baby friendly” and doesn’t give them out because they encourage breastfeeding and warn you about nipple confusion.

Ditto to others. If you’re breastfeeding it’s recommended you wait. My understanding (per my breastfeeding instructor)  wasn’t because of nipple confusion, but because you want baby in your breast as much as possible to help stimulate your milk. Also, a baby will get tired and fall asleep after sucking for a period is time, so if they’re sucking on a pacifier, they’ll be less likely to suck on your breast which again can effect your milk and also can potentially effect their wait gain. So, as much as it can suck, it’s best to let them nurse as long and often as possible. A pacifier is designed to be a fake nipple, so it’s better to just let them use the real thing in the beginning.

My hospital offers the green soother ones, my first wasn’t interested in a pacifier so I won’t be taking one.

if you take one you might want to open the pack and sterilise first.My causin took an unopened pack and didnt feel comfortable just giving it strait to her baby so i had to take it back home and sterilise it for her while she was in hospital

I brought one with me and they didn’t have any for me. They said they suggest not introducing until 4 months. My babes is a finger sucker so I’m glad I introduced the soother to him at birth.

all the hospitals I've been to have soothies (the green pacifiers) its recommended to wait 6+ weeks to introduce one if you plan to breastfeed
