Can vaginal ultrasounds pick up something sooner?

I heard that a vaginal ultrasound can detect a pregnancy faster than a regular ultrasound outside of your pelvis could. 
Is this correct?

Vaginal ultrasounds are for very early pregnancy around 6-8 weeks and until your baby starts coming out of the pelvis and is visible looking thru an abdominal ultrasound. It doesn’t mean it will pick up if you’re pregnant sooner, it will just pick up the baby when you can’t see it thru the abdomen yet

Yes, I had my first ultrasound at 5 weeks 6 days and they saw pretty much nothing on the abdominal but could see a little heartbeat with the vaginal
