Maxine Waters and Civil Unrest

Michelle

I did a cursory search and didn't see this mentioned yet, so I thought I'd get the ball rolling!

If your haven't heard, Maxine Waters (D- CA, Congresswoman) recently said some controversial things.

Her quote: "if you see anybody from that cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gas station, you get out and you create a crowd and you push back on then and tell them they're not welcome anymore, anywhere."

Her quote came one day after a Virginia restaurant peaceful kicked Sarah Huckabee Sanders out.

Several democrats have come out against Waters' quote (Nancy Pelosi, the "face" of the democratic party, called it "unacceptable" in a Tweet) and lots of republicans have lashed out as well (Trump called Waters stupid, he called her an "extremely low in person" obviously in a Tweet)

The biggest complaint is that Waters' quote seems to invite violence.

Personally, if she meant harm on the cabinet, I think its unacceptable. Regardless of my feelings towards this administration, I don't believe anyone should be physically hurt. And in that regard, if violence is what she meant, I don't agree with her.

However, I believe it's totally fine to nonviolently protest and it should be out freedom to protest nonviolently.

While I don't agree with the violence aspect of Waters' call for action, some parts of her intent I agree on. I was just wondering about other people's thought about this situation??

Update // Waters has come out and said she "believes in peaceful, very peaceful protests. I have not called on the harm of anybody." So her intent was to be peaceful. Does this change your opinion on her original statement?

Edit // I got rid of my mention of the LGBTQ+/bakers situation to focus on my real question of whether you agree with Waters' quote.
