Driving across the country and back

So my husband and I are leaving California today and wanting to get to Ohio on the 1st of July . We’ve made this trip once before accept it was from Ohio to Cali . The first time we had our puppies with us and a uhaul this time we are taking his car and aren’t bringing anything accept clothes (visiting family ) anybody have any tips /suggestions for driving across the country
