Possibility of twins?

Are twins only possible if they run in your family and/or through IVF?

Identical twins are pure luck- absolutely nothing can predict this because it’s just by chance that the single fertilized egg split making two or more babies. Fraternal twins are said to run in families, but what is being passed on is hyper ovulation down the MATERNAL side. 
I was having a hard time conceding my 2nd because of a mass in my uterus and once it was removed, it had already disrupted my hormones enough that my cycle completely stopped. Instead of resetting with birth control, my dr used progesterone and Clomid to restart my cycle and get me ovulating again. My Mom’s mom is a fraternal twin and so he let me know that my chances of conceiving twins was around 35%, but adding the clomid added another ~6%. I honestly didn’t believe him. I wanted another baby so bad that I just said yes because there’s no way it’s going to happen to me... wrong! Lol. I actually conceived triplets, but lost the 3rd baby very early on. The other two are in my belly still doing great at  27 weeks! 😆

No, twins do not run in my family and we conceived identical twins naturally. We have learned a lot about twins in the process. Genetic twins are carried through the mothers side of the family and the resulting gene usually causes the mother to release more than one egg in a cycle. (Although not every time). Resulting in fraternal twins, which are the only genetic twins. Identical twins are split from one egg and are not genetic but simply sporadic. ☺️

No. I conceived my twins naturally, no family history what so ever & we have no factors that make the chances for a twin pregnancy higher. It was just pure luck! I'm having Di/Di twin girls who are due in September! ☺️💕

you have a higher chance if fraternal twins run in your family. Now this does NOT apply to the fathers side. Only the mother can pass on hyper ovulation, increasing your chance of fraternal twins. Anyone can have identical twins because that’s a single fertilized egg that has split into 2 eggs.
