car help

So I'm using my dad's truck which takes up a lot of gas (as a lot of people who own trucks know) and I finally got another job and want to save up for my own car my boyfriend wants to take a 2000 loan on his name( because my ex fucked over and I trusted him to take a loan out with him) and he wants to get me my car and have me give him the 150 a week to pay it off. but I want to get the car on my own alone, we are also trying to save up for a house and he said it would help his credit if we did it this way. but he told me I'm being selfish and stuck up because I want to do it on my own honestly is it.
