UPDATE!!!!! Am I just not seeing the bigger picture?!

Question

So a boy at my school has gotten into a motor biking accident. His dad died last night. He’s in a coma on life support and has had his leg amputated. His mum also died of cancer last year and he has no siblings. Everyone is saying it’s better if he didn’t wake up but I think personally he should still live a life. Am I being harsh or mean?Opinions?
So he has thankfully woken up from the coma and my school has set up a donation charity to raise money for him! He does have a brother who is twenty, but doesn’t live local. He has been told about his dad and has chose to live with his brother rather than go into foster care.

You’re not being harsh for wanting him to live. A lot of people are probably just thinking about how hard it’s going to be for him to deal with all of this after. Since he’s in a coma, his chances of making it out already seem pretty slim, and with an amputated leg and no family, that’s going to be a huge adjustment for him to adjust life to, but not impossible. It’d be nice if he could make it out of this but at the same time I understand why death may seem like a less cruel option here especially considering how young he is to lose so much.

My dad was orphaned at 18. His mom died at 13, and his dad died at 18. He was very, very poor after their deaths. 
He was not disabled, but many people go on to live happily after debilitating accidents. He's a husband and a father, gainfully employed, and him and my mom have plans to move to Europe when they retire. He loves baking homeade sourdough loaves He's led a very happy life, despite his tragic beginnings. 
Don't let anyone tell you they're"better off dead"! It always can get better

I personally wouldnt  care to live a life all alone with no family. But thats my decision, not my decision to make for anyone else... and there are so many other factors  to think about also.... brain activity?

it is definitely harsh to say he’s better off not waking up. but if i were in his position, i wouldn’t want to wake up either. people shouldn’t voice opinions so harshly like that.

Y’all this is why life insurance is so important if you have kids! If I became orphaned tomorrow I’d have enough to pay off my parents house and finish school. Granted I’d rather have my parents because I adore them, but you never know what’s going to happen and it’s best to be prepared.
