birth control help

So having strict parents is one thing and being 19 is another. The issue occurs when im sexually active with my boyfriend and my parents are religious so birth control isnt something that is talked about. so i have questions like

how do you know which birth control go go for or where to begin? my friends mom said to go to planned parenthood but like im scared to go myself. im lost and any help would be appreciative.
