What is the purpose of the Royal family?

The other post got me thinking about the monarch and what do they even do if they must have no political opinions and essentially cut ribbons. Why are they consider "royal" and above everyone else? How do they make their money and what do they do for the citizens? I know that some have day jobs, but what of the others?

Okay! Everyone that has questions about the importance and history of the Royal Family should watch CPG Greys explanations on you tube. They technically own all the land still. It has been a tradition since Henry VII to give all the profits made from those lands to the parliament. It costs £40,000,000 to maintain the royal family a year but parliament profits £160,000,000 a year from these lands not including the £7,000,000 a year they make off of tourism because of the royal family. They make the country a FUCK TON of money!!! The government derives its right to rule from the crown not the people. They technically have the right to repossess allllll the land back. Why are they royalty? My oh my that goes back all the way to 1066! An incredibly crazy lineage. The current queen is the longest reigning queen in the history of the WORLD not just the UK. She will be talked about for far longer than Trumps 4 year blip as a president. They are the royal family. 
God save the queen!

The royal family is a wonderful thing. Whilst the queen has little to no power, she keeps government in check and you know they can’t run completely wild (I’m looking at you, America). They host charity events and raise money, they go out and meet the people in times of need (terrorist attacks last year, grenfell). They bring in millions of £ in tourism. Historically they bring a lot of power and there’s huge huge politics in the royal family, they’ve got to behave and act a certain way (remember Harry holidaying and the press coverage?). The queen is also the head of the commonwealth which stretches across the world down to Australia and New Zealand which helps to unite the world. If you don’t understand it I’d do some research over the past 500 years of monarchs to understand the power and politics of it all and how things have come to this, that’s probably the most interesting part of British history

I would assume it’s the same like having a president or prime minister, someone’s got to be in charge? England isn’t the only country with a royal family. Yeah they also have prime ministers but most the time they answer to the queen/royal leader.
