International travel??

I wasn’t sure which board to post on...
We are contemplating an international trip to Italy to visit friends in the spring. Our son will be 11 months old at that time. Thoughts/experience with traveling with a small child? Has anyone left the child behind with grandparents for 7 to 10 days? Would that be a better option compared to dealing with jet lag and the complicated nature of traveling with a small child? Thanks for your thoughts!!

It is definitely possible to travel, but it will be a little difficult. I just did a 10hr international with a 9mo old that went fine. Taking a red eye where she can sleep most of the way is best. Or if that is not possible, buying a separate seat. I am sure all babies are different, but my LO had horrible jet lag from the 7hr time difference that lasted over a week both directions...which could make your vacation less enjoyable. I took my LO because I wanted her to meet family abroad. But you would have to determine if the hassle is worth it for you.

all kids are different my daughter was soooo easy and i was flying overseas to lebanon and it took forever to get here 9 hours to germany and then 4 hours to lebanon she slept the whole way

i traveled 2 hours with my eleven month old and he was a mess. he was mad he was being contained and just wanted to get down and crawl. i cant imagine an international flight at that age.

We went to London when our daughter was six months old. She did pretty good on the flight (that wasn't her first flight), but the the worst part for us was dealing with time adjustment. She was so confused by time and it was torture. I wasn't ready to leave her at that time mainly because I was EBF, which is the reason I didn't leave her with my parents or my in-laws. We did leave her with my parents a few weeks ago when we went on our anniversary cruise and it was rough at first because I'm never away from her and she's used to her nighttime nursing sessions. However, she had fun getting spoiled by her grandparents.
