Breastfeeding pain

New to nursing and my baby is 6 days old tomorrow

Nursing when latching is so painful - yesterday I cried each time he would latch and sometimes during nursing. LC and ped both were on the fence if baby has a tongue tie and said they would wait to see but people usually have pain for 1-2 weeks with nursing and it gets better

does this ring true for you?

I’m using a shield, changing positions to accommodate a big suck by my baby and also many creams to help overcome the initial cracked nipples

Any advice/stories are appreciated!
