How do I choose a formula?

My almost 8 month old is my third child and I have exclusively breastfed all three. However I will be returning to work and I am completely overwhelmed with how to pump enough when I leave her. If I feed her first and then pump I only get 2-4 oz and if I pump first then I feel like she is hungry at her next feeding. I also can only pump when she is napping and I usually use that time to shower/eat/get things done. Plus I feel like I need to pump a few days in a row to get enough to last her just for two feedings. And then to pump while at work seems like such an inconvenience. I work for a small company so I’d end up pumping in the bathroom. Ugh. So I am begrudgingly thinking about supplementing with formula when I am away but I honestly have no idea how people choose a formula. Just go to the formula isle and randomly choose one? They are like $25-$30 each so if she doesn’t like it or it doesn’t agree with her tummy it’s just a loss.  Help me mommas!!!

Is your baby sleeping through the night? If so that would be an easy time to add a pump session. Power pumping might help up your supply some too..if you choose formula you can check with your pediatrician; they can point you to your best picks and usually have samples on hand to try. You can try to sign up websites for free samples so you can figure out which works best for you guys :) Personally we started with Similac Pro Advance but we’ve switched over to Similac Advance since it’s free with WIC

It’s hard. I formula feed because I had issues with Bf. My son is 7 months. I started with a similac formula - I think it was the pro advanced. But then he started wheezing so I thought maybe he was allergic. So I switched to Similac soy . But then he got eczema. So now he’s on Similac hypoallergenic and it’s all good. But we tried so many types and diff brands and finally found the one that worked around 4/5 months or so. So I’d recommend buying one thing of a type of  formula and see how it goes. Goodluck mama!!

Soy is the best! Typically if kids can’t handle any formula they can handle soy!

Similar has been sending us $15 coupons so we have been supplementing with that. We started with the normal and made our way to sensitive to we found something that agreed with him.

before I went back to work, I would pump in one side while feeding my son in the other?  if your babe is fulling draining both sides while you're feeling them, that obviously wouldn't help lol, but I had success getting a little stashed up that way!  also, if you go ahead and sign up for Similac and enfamil rewards programs, they will send you samples and coupons to use!  I received several samples in the mail from both brands and have had to supplement a little with my son (had to go out of town for work several days and wasn't stashed enough), and we were able to use the samples, that will help you try them to make sure your baby can handle certain ones before you buy the big containers!!
